WHAT´S TELEWORKING

Project LEDA is directed to the collective called "Teleworkers", although at this moment it does not exist a clear definition among the experts, we have tried to clarify its meaning from the definition of Jack Nilles, one of the pioneers within this field.

Jack Nilles in 1988 defined teleworking as the substitution of working related travelling by the new information and communication technologies.

Currently the word "Teleworking" covers a wider range of possibilities, but the base of it is the substitution of travels home-office-home by the new communication and information technologies.

Now the existent variables of teleworking are explained:

Teleworking at home: teleworkers carries out specific tasks in his/her home avoiding the need of travelling until the office.

Mobile Teleworking: Teleworker performs the tasks from several places, it implies the transfer of information very often among the company, the teleworker and the clients). It can be undertaken taking the advantages of the new communication and information technologies can provide us.

Satellite Office: teleworkers perform their tasks in a centre with other colleagues, not necessarily working for the same company, instead of working at the central offices of the firm or organisation..

The project is mainly focused on the first two kinds of teleworking, although the third one is not excluded.
